  • Press Shift + Control + H to toggle the High Contrast Highlight mode.
  • This is the time to use some of the other tools that DaVinci Resolve has to offer to make them cleaner. Perhaps there are still some green edges around your subject that are visible in the preview window.
  • Further refine your Power Window shape with the values under Transform (your shape’s position, angle, and opacity settings) and Softness (the softness of your shape’s edges) in the Window workspace.
  • Just make sure the Power Window will not crop out your subject’s head or hands as they move. For example, if you’re editing a talking head and there’s a scratch on your green screen you want to crop out, you can shrink the edges of the footage.
  • Readjust the edges of the Power Window by clicking and dragging the points on its outline.
  • Select the Shape you want your Power Window to be.
  • Now the space outside of your Power Window will appear as whatever’s on the video track below by default. Anything on the same layer that is outside of the Power Window’s boundaries is cropped out. Basically, anything in your green screen footage that’s inside the Power Window will be visible. This is a useful technique if you want to resize or reposition your green screen layer. This can be done with Power Windows, also known as masks. • I simply do not have time in the short- to mid-term and will not consider rebranding for at least a year. Rebranding is a lot of work that mostly comes after the initial design. Neither do I want anything representing the old world of film including film strip, reels, or scissors as they are old and overdone. A logo that looks like an Adobe product is unacceptable. I do not understand how it cannot be perceived as a logo when it is literally everywhere on everything officially Shotcut - app icon, splash screen, about dialog, top left corner of every page of the web site and forum, favicon, social media, etc. It looks like a clip (shot) on a track after it has been split (cut): ][ Even if that was an actual logo, anyone who isn’t familiar with Shotcut, seeing that on a thumbnail would just just think it’s merely a design element and not a logo. That fact that I was a logo design professional and didn’t realize the “pause-looking symbol” was the actual logo, should say something. If I see a an Adobe Premiere logo or a DaVinci Resolve logo on a thumbnail, I immediately know what software it’s for. It’s a great-looking icon, but I think it’s too understated to be a logo. In fact, I probably watch more Premiere videos than I do Shotcut to test myself to see if I can do it in Shotcut. That’s why most of my tutorials are based on trying to achieve more advanced, cinematic techniques that many Premiere users do. Well, nearly a year later and I’m still using Shotcut.

I told myself when I first started video editing that the moment I hit a dead-end and get frustrated enough with Shotcut due to inability to accomplish certain tasks, that’s when I bite the bullet and start using DaVinci or Premiere. I think that Shotcut is very powerful and can ascertain the same brand recognition as the flagship brands.
